What to see in Beg-Meil, the pearl of South Finistère

Our campsite is located in the heart of Beg-Meil, a small port-village in South Finistère, appreciated for its beautiful white sandy beaches, secluded coves and emerald sea. Set on the sand facing the Glénan archipelago, Beg-Meil is also a charming, sporty and relaxed seaside resort, with a family atmosphere and a gentle way of life that you won’t find anywhere else in Southern Brittany. Discover…
Beg-Meil’s beaches and coves
They’re called Bot-Conan, Lantecoste, Kermil or plage des Oiseaux, and each has its own style! Secret coves, wide stretches of white sand, turquoise waters… Beg-Meil’s beaches have something to satisfy all your seaside desires. At the campsite, we’re lucky enough to be just 400 metres from Kerveltrec beach and the GR 34 coastal footpaths. Further afield, the very long beach of Maner Coat Clévarec is also a great attraction for families. It has been awarded the Pavillon Bleu label and is supervised in summer, as is Kerambigorn beach. The Kerambigorn beach is often a favourite with teenagers, as a multitude of sporting activities are organized there in July and August: beach volleyball, beach basketball, beach rugby, beach soccer… At the tip of Beg-Meil, Plage des Dunes is considered one of Fouesnant-les-Glénan’s legendary beaches. The most luxurious is undoubtedly Plage des Oiseaux, set at the foot of the villas on the famous Chemin Creux between the cove and the tip of Beg-Meil… During your stay at the campsite, you’ll have plenty of time to find the beach that will become your favorite sandy spot, or the little cove you’ve always dreamed of!
A short stroll from the headland to the Beg-Meil cove
Nestled between rocks and greenery, the Chemin Creux is a lovely walk along the coast. From the Pointe de Beg-Meil and its semaphore, it leads to the cale de Beg-Meil. At every turn of this intimate stroll, the views over the bay of La Forêt are astonishing. The magnificent manor houses and villas lining the headland are a reminder that the Pointe de Beg-Meil became a renowned Breton seaside resort in the early 19th century. During the summer months, the region’s wealthiest families, as well as famous politicians, artists and writers such as Marcel Proust and Sarah Bernhardt, spent part of their summers here.
Beg-Meil cove and its small fishing and yachting harbour
Built in 1892, the Beg-Meil slipway provided a safe berth and shelter for fishermen navigating this part of La Forêt Bay. At the same time, the little seaside resort was beginning to make a name for itself, and Beg-Meil was very much in vogue in South Finistère. The slipway brought Beg-Meil within sailing distance of Concarneau. Today, the Beg-Meil slipway is still a lively, bustling place, especially during the summer season. You’ll meet boaters and hikers on their way out, and a few inshore fishermen offering fresh fish and langoustines in season. There are also the regulars of the little “dive of the slipway”, those who prepare their diving equipment or make the final adjustments to their sailboat and the impatient who wait on the slipway for the next boat for the Glénan archipelago or Concarneau… An atmosphere that smells of Brittany and the fresh sea air!
Would you like to spend a morning fishing at Pointe de Mousterlin?
When the tide is out, it’s time to go fishing at the Pointe de Mousterlin, between Fouesnant and Bénodet. In summer, it’s an activity the whole family love, especially as Mousterlin is one of Fouesnant’s best fishing spots. You’ll find all kinds of shellfish here: curlers and shrimps hidden under seaweed and in water holes, cockles, mussels and clams buried in the sand… As soon as the sea rises, go with it. It’s time to get back to the campsite and enjoy the fruits of your catch!
